The late Joan Morrissey is often called the province’s “First Lady of Song”. Her career spanned two decades until her untimely death in 1978. Morrissey’s repertoire included county, folk, traditional and show tunes. Many of the songs Morrissey performed were written by Tom Cahill and have become staple folksongs such as “Thank God We’re Surrounded by Water” and “The Mobile Goat”.
Sherry Ryan, Janet Cull and Andrea Monro — a few of our current Ladies of Song — pay tribute to Joan Morrissey with a selection of her songs.
Singer-songwriter Andrea Monro has one of the best voices in the province. She has been in several bluegrass band over the years and currently plays 5 string banjo in Flower Hill. You can treat yourself to her beautiful songs at the Black Sheep on Wednesday nights.
