Applications for the 48th Annual NL Folk Festival are now open!

The NL Folk Festival would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of the hundreds of volunteers who join us each year!

As a volunteer, we expect you to dedicate approximately 10 hours over the festival weekend (usually in two or three shifts). Punctuality, teamwork, open communication, respect and a positive attitude are of the utmost importance. Our volunteers are the face of the Folk Festival to our audience, so a positive and helpful attitude is a must.

Basic training will be provided for all positions, however please detail any relevant experience in the comment section on the form below. We will host a volunteer rally in advance of the festival to introduce you to your team. Inclusion in Action training will be offered to all volunteers again this year by InclusionNL. All volunteers also receive a special volunteer festival t-shirt as well as free refreshments at the Volunteer Headquarters . Most importantly, you will enjoy meeting new friends and sharing a memorable experience with the rest of the team!

Audience Relations: These volunteers provide information to the public and represent the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society (NLFAS). They will be stationed either in the NLFAS tent or at the main gate, and may also circulate the site. Those in the tent will be responsible for selling Society memberships, lottery tickets, and merchandise, while those at the gate and circulating the site will answer questions. These volunteers should be friendly and approachable. Experience in sales transactions is also an asset.

Beer Service: This is a fast-paced job serving drinks to patrons in our Beer Garden and assisting with cleanup. Servers are friendly and energetic. Volunteers must be 19 years or older. Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador’s Responsible Service Certification and prior experience are definite assets, so be sure to indicate these in the comment section of the application form.

Beer Ticket Sales: This is a fast-paced job selling drink tickets in our Beer Garden. Volunteers must have basic math skills, experience in sales transactions, and a calm demeanor. Must be 19 years or older.

Box Office: These volunteers are friendly, responsible, and love to deal with the public. Volunteers must have basic math skills, experience in sales transactions, and a calm demeanor.

Entry Volunteers: This crew will be stationed at the festival entrance and will either scan tickets or wristband patrons. Training will be provided. Calm, personable volunteers are an asset!

Finance: This team works hard to keep accurate records of sales during the festival. Financial experience is required for this area, as well as a sharp eye and a cool head.

Inclusion Crew: We’re looking for volunteers who are committed to ensuring that people of all abilities have full access to the Folk Festival. Volunteers will work together with the existing festival team to provide support to Festival attendees as requested, provide information on the inclusive features of the Festival, monitor site access, and give assistance as needed. Training on inclusion will be provided. Good communication skills are an asset. Please indicate any experience you have working with people with any kind of a disability in the comments section of the form although previous experience is not a requirement.

Site Crew: This crew of strong and handy volunteers will assist with the setup and tear down of festival infrastructure. During the festival, they will assist with keeping the festival site clean and beautiful, maintaining trash and recycling containers, and doing a sweep of the grounds at the end of the night. These volunteers will also alert their supervisor to any maintenance issues needing attention. Heavy lifting, carpentry and mechanical skills are an asset here.

Volunteer and Performer Relations: 1) The Volunteer Relations team will maintain the volunteer tent. They will check in volunteers at the start and end of their shifts, manage refreshments for volunteers, and may be asked to run errands for volunteers who cannot leave their posts. 2) Performer Relations will check in performers. vendors, emcees, and other special guests. Volunteers should be friendly and personable and should dress casually.
