The Chacarera is an Argentine folk dance that pre-dates the Tango and it is one of the dances from which the Tango evolved. A genre of Argentine folk music aIso called Chacarera accompanies the dance. The Chacarera consists of a set sequence of figures. It remains a part of Argentine cultural and social life as people dance it at community celebrations and weddings in rural Argentina and at milongas all over the world. Participants dance the Chacarera in pairs standing opposite one another in a longways set that can accomodate any number of partners. The figures of the dance are easy to demonstrate and to learn: one does not need previous dance experience to learn this dance.
