Young Folk at the Hall is a free workshop series for young folk musicians ending with a public afternoon concert.
Fergus O’Byrne and several local musicians will facilitate the workshops sessions which give the young musicians and singers an opportunity to work with and play with older musicians, learn more about their instrument of choice (voice included) and explore the possibility of musical liaisons with their peers and have FUN!
Workshops take place on Friday October 18th (5:30 – 8:00pm) & Saturday October 19th (1 – 4pm).
The concert takes place on Sunday October 20th at 1:00pm.
All activities take place at White Hills Academy.
This program is presented by Fergus O’Byrne, The International Grenfell Association, and The Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society.
MORE INFO AND HOW TO REGISTER
The purpose of these workshops is to give young musicians an opportunity to share their talents with their peers in an informal setting; to develop musical relationships among the young musicians; and primarily, to foster the idea that performing and sharing music is an enjoyable and fulfilling activity. The content of the Sunday afternoon concert will emanate from these two workshops.
We would ask that the young musicians who wish to register have a repertoire (it need not be extensive) of folk songs and/or music. The workshops will team various young folk together to produce three to four pieces to be performed as an ensemble for the concert. Depending on the number of children registered we may have 4-6 ensembles performing in the concert.
Several local musicians and I will facilitate these workshops sessions. The workshops will give the young musicians and singers an opportunity to work with and play with these older musicians, learn more about their instrument of choice (voice included) and explore the possibility of musical liaisons with their peers and have FUN! Also, the workshops will be FREE. Unfortunately, space is limited so please register early.
