JOB POSTING: Event Coordinator

Following a successful community fundraising campaign, the Society is rebuilding its programs and preparing for an exciting future. The successful candidate will play an important role in the delivery of the 2026 Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival on Saturday, August 8, 2026, and, following the festival, will help restore the Society’s year-round programming while assisting with the early planning and development of our landmark 50th Anniversary Festival in 2027. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to make a meaningful contribution to Newfoundland and Labrador’s vibrant folk arts community.

Position Details

Reports to: Board of Directors
Term: Fixed Term, Full-Time (16 weeks) From August 3 to November 22, 2026
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

The position generally follows regular weekday office hours. However, because of the nature of festivals and community events, the successful candidate will be expected to work some evenings and weekends, particularly during the lead-up to and delivery of the 2026 Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival and other Society events. The Society supports a flexible work schedule, and equivalent time off will normally be provided when operational requirements necessitate evening or weekend work.

Compensation: $27.00 per hour
Location: NLFAS office #203, 223 Duckworth St. St. John’s, NL, A1C 6N1

Key Responsibilities

  • Festival Delivery: In the week leading up to the Festival, the Event Coordinator will assist the Festival team with the final planning, successful delivery of the 2026 Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival and post festival wrap-up.
  • Society Operations: Following the Festival, the Event Coordinator will help rebuild the Society’s ongoing programs and support its day-to-day operations.

Qualifications


The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Excellent organizational, administrative, and time-management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with volunteers, artists, Board members, funders, and the public
  • A positive, flexible, and solutions-focused approach


The following would be considered assets:

  • Experience in event coordination or project management
  • Experience working in the arts, culture, or non-profit sector
  • Knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador’s folk arts community
  • Experience with grant writing or fundraising
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s licence
