Program Information:
The program, first started by Fergus O’ Byrne, provides a unique educational opportunity for young musicians to meet and share in the fun of playing music together. It has been an invaluable part of the cultural development of young artists in our community over the last 20+ years.
At the initial workshop/meeting musicians will be divided into groups of four to six musicians with a broad range of ages and musical ability within their group. Each group will then work with a mentor / facilitator who will help guide the group through the selection of common repertoire (4 pieces maximum – songs and/or instrumentals), and the arrangement of those pieces. Plus, a band name will be decided on and band photos taken! The second session is quite similar to the first, but more focused on rehearsing and arranging the final repertoire in advance of the finale concert the following day.
The program is designed for young artists between the age of 7 and 18 who are interested in performing folk music. Participants should have a basic ability to perform on one or more of the following instruments: voice, guitar, fiddle, banjo, accordion, mandolin, penny whistle, bass, bouzouki, bohran, and drumset.
