The Broadside presents one of St. John’s best brother duos, Dave and Geoff Panting!
The Panting Brothers have been part of the Newfoundland and Labrador music scene since the early 70s and are veterans of national and international touring! These guys have been a part of some pretty influential groups and have garnered various awards, so it goes without saying that we are so folkin’ happy to have them on the show!
Let’s keep these good vibes going!
After hearing William Prince on the Folk Fest stage we can almost guarantee you’ll leave the park starry eyed and following whatever path leads you to more music and more good times. Join us for Late Night at the Ship for The Old Contemporaries, opened by Andrew Smith!
This week on The Broadside we are being blessed with the presence of not one, but two exceptionally talented women! Karla Pilgrim is a three-time MusicNL winner and ECMA nominee, and Jackie Sullivan has garnered titles such as MusicNL’s Female Artist of the Year, CBC Galaxie Rising Star, and more recently for her nomination for Folk/Roots Artist of the Year in 2020. Both artists are multi-talented singer/songwriter powerhouses of the local music industry and we can’t wait for you all to hear them serenade you across the airwaves!
Wondering where to catch some more music and stretch out the night after hearing Emmylou Harris at Folk Fest? Head down the hill to Late Night at The Ship for Mick Davis & Thin Love!

This week on The Broadside we are ecstatic to present one of our province’s leading traditional music performers, Kelly Russell! A professional musician since 1975, Kelly has been a member of landmark groups Figgy Duff, The Wonderful Grand Band, The Plankerdown Band, Bristol’s Hope, Kelly Russell & The Planks and The Irish Descendants, and has worked closely for many years with legendary fiddlers Rufus Guinchard and Emile Benoit, learning, recording and documenting their unique music.
The Verdin Brothers is a collaborative project between multi-instrumentalists Peter and Mark Verdin that has transmuted traditional into experimental, tracking the crooked byroads of folk and lingering in its dark pockets and eerie configurations. Building from a foundation of steel-string guitar and upright bass, they play deranged instrumental folk music that blends elements of American Primitive guitar, traditional string band, and musique concrète. With unique instrumentation and a keen ear for melody, The Verdin Brothers’ music will have you hypnotized!
