Come on down to a very special Folk Night at The Ship! November 14th – 9PM
It’s been almost 7 years since our good friend Dr. Peter Narvaez left the stage, and his mark on the music scene of the province cannot be overstated. His distinctively original songwriting, incredible blues harmonica and jaw dropping guitar playing is the stuff of a legend around here.
Perhaps you had marveled at his command of guitar and harmonica when he played on Out of the Fog, or noticed his editing credits on publications like Of Corpse: Death and Humor in Folklore and Popular Culture. He might have taught you at MUN or sat in on an impromptu jam session with you and some friends at a downtown bar.
A singer/songwriter, a respected blues musician, an educator, writer, researcher and dedicated community volunteer. To honour his tireless effort in furthering the traditional folk arts of this province, the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society had named Peter the recipient of the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award, and now it’s that time of year for all to gather – friends and fans – and play as many Peter Narvaez tunes as we dare to learn!
Many of the usual suspects are on onboard include Glen Tilley, Denis Parker, the Powerhouse Blues Band, Low Yo Stuff, Dave Mundy and Callum Latta, Neil Rosenberg and Brian, Maria and Jacob Cherwick along with George Miminis, Darren Browne, Matt Hender, Dave Panting, and more will join in.
So, there ya go. An eclectic, mostly bluesy mix of some of the best players, and people, in the old town.
