Help Us Keep Newfoundland and Labrador’s Culture Alive!

The Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society is facing an urgent financial crisis. Without your support, we risk losing the ability to continue the programs and events that celebrate our province’s incredible heritage.

You can help by Donating now to sustain our work and support our team, and by sharing this message with friends and family who care about Newfoundland’s arts and culture.

Your support today will ensure our festivals, artists, and traditions continue to thrive. Thank you for standing with us.

When you give to the NFLAS, you are not just supporting the NL Folk Festival, our annual world-class gathering of local, national, and international artists and performers, you are also supporting our year-round programming, including: our weekly Folk Night at The Ship performances and group sessions, our monthly programs such as the FolQ Open MiQ, Songs and Yarns, I’s Not the B’ys, etc. You’re also supporting our extensive youth outreach and training programs like Young Folk at the Hall, that help engage and promote our up-and-coming generation of folk artists.

Our Mandate:

At the NLFAS, our mandate is to protect and preserve our folk arts culture. In 1968, the founders of what is now the Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Arts Society issued the following four mandates for the organization and we feel just as strongly about them today as they did back then.

  • To promote the folk arts in NL & throughout Canada
  • To foster creative experiences of those arts
  • To promote cooperation among organizations related to the folk arts of NL
  • To produce folk arts festivals for the purpose of educating & advancing the public’s understanding & appreciation of NL folk arts and to educate artists through participation in festivals, workshops, and other related events.

From these mandates, we developed the following mission statement:

The Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Arts Society celebrates, preserves, and promotes the traditional and contemporary folk arts of our province at home and away, through public outreach and events, including our annual Folk Festival.
